Statement on Behalf of Bob Harvey, President and CEO, Greater Houston Partnership

“The Partnership congratulates Mayor Turner, Ira Mitzner, chair of the Houston bid committee, along with Michael Heckman and the team at Houston First for bringing the 2028 Republican National Convention to Houston. The Partnership was pleased to assist in making the case for our region when the RNC site selection committee visited last December.

Having hosted the Democratic and Republican conventions on prior occasions (1928 and 1992, respectively), we know the national exposure that such events bring to Houston. Houstonians will also benefit from the $200 million in estimated economic impact created by the 50,000 attendees who are expected. 

Houston is a city of ever-increasing national prominence.  We know that attendees to the 2028 RNC will experience everything Houston has to offer, from our incredible quality of life to the wonderful diversity of our global city. This is a major win for Houston.”
