Times get tough for recruiters when the labor market tightens. These professionals have to get even more creative in their recruitment and retention strategies, and according to research, hiring in 2019 may be just as difficult as 2018.
In fact, Inc.com reports that as the talent pool continues to shrink, companies will need to hire faster than ever before while providing uber-personalized perks to keep their employees on payroll. In one of the fastest growing cities in the nation, here are three Houston-based companies tapping into less obvious pools of talent to find an advantage.
Potentia
Potentia is a full-service recruitment firm with a passionate focus for placing autistic job candidates. According to Potentia, 50,000 individuals diagnosed with autism attempt to enter the workforce every year, and over 3.5 million autistic individuals live in the U.S. today. Potentia helps their clients think differently about including “neurodiversity” in their talent strategy by training employers, sourcing candidates and providing support after day one of hiring.
Lone Star Veterans
Founded in 2009, Lone Star Veterans focuses on a successful transition from military to civilian life by providing community, and helping veterans find a long-term career. They educate employers to search for a culture fit instead of checking off a required skills list when hiring veterans. They provide assistance in multiple career tracks such as energy, technology and recently opened the Bunker Labs - Houston chapter, a nationwide community of veteran entrepreneurs.
Accenture
Accenture focuses on educating their client base on the broad range of disabilities, and how to design your office and build an inclusive talent base. They uncover the hard facts in their Disability:IN report conducted alongside the American Association of People with Disabilities.
Accenture identified 45 companies as standouts for disability inclusion, and their analysis concluded that on average companies that hire more persons with disabilities, attain "28 percent higher revenue, double the net income, and 30 percent higher economic profit margins than their peers.”
